Polarity ("the game") is published by SoftPin s.r.o. ("we"), who is responsible for the data described here (the "controller" under the GDPR). Contact: support@softpin.space.
What the game stores on your device
Your settings, scores, game history, achievements, coins, helper balances, unlocked themes and any unfinished game are stored on your device. Deleting the game deletes them, unless they are also in your cloud save (below).
Cloud save
If you are signed in to Google Play Games (Android) or Game Center (iPhone), the game keeps a copy of your progress in your own saved games there, so it follows you to a new phone: coins, helpers, best scores, level stars, statistics, your most recent games, achievements, Daily Board records, your daily streak, event badges, the weekly reward, the themes you unlocked with coins, ads or your streak, your settings, and whether you bought Premium or the Void theme, so they work on your other devices without "Restore purchases". An unfinished game stays on the device it is played on. If more than one account signs in on the same device, each account's progress is kept apart on the device and goes only to that account's saved games. The saved game is stored by Google or Apple under their privacy policies, in your account. We cannot read it. You can delete it from Play Games or from iCloud settings,.
Play statistics
To learn how the game is played and make it better, the game sends play statistics to Google Analytics for Firebase. They are pseudonymous: they carry an identifier Firebase creates for this installation of the game, never your name. They include:
- game events: runs started and ended (mode, board size, layer reached, score, length), levels started, won, lost, continued or left, Daily Board results, boss layers, perks picked, helpers used, coins earned and spent, rewarded ads watched and where, themes unlocked, weekly rewards, purchases delivered, tutorial steps, screens opened, notifications allowed and opened
- device and app information: device model, operating system and app version, language, and approximate country, derived from your IP address
- the identifier Firebase creates for this installation of the game
They do not include your name, email address, player name or contacts, and they are not used for advertising. Google processes them for us as a service provider. They are kept for up to 14 months and then deleted.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Analytics stores its identifier on your device only if you agreed to it in the consent form the game shows at its first launch (storing information on your device, and measurement). Otherwise the statistics are sent without it, so they cannot be tied to one device. You can change your answer in Settings, "Ad privacy choices".
You can turn play statistics off at any time in Settings, "Share usage statistics". Nothing more is sent after that.
Error reports and performance
If the game runs into an error or crashes while "Share usage statistics" is on, it sends a report so we can find and fix it. Reports go to Firebase Crashlytics and to our Firebase project (Google Cloud Firestore). They hold:
- the error and where in the game's code it happened
- the app version, the device model, the operating system and its version, and the language
- an identifier created for this installation of the game, so reports from one phone can be told apart
- the game you were playing at the time (the board, the score, the layer) and the last things you did in the game, such as "started a Classic run" or "swiped left"
While sharing is on, Firebase Performance Monitoring also measures how long the game takes to start, how smoothly it draws and how long a cloud save takes, with the device model, operating system and approximate country.
They hold no name, email address or contacts. Crash reports are deleted after 90 days, and the reports in our Firebase project after 90 days. When you turn "Share usage statistics" off, reports not yet sent are deleted on the device.
Protecting the game's services
The game asks Google Play Integrity (Android) or Apple App Attest (iPhone), through Firebase App Check, to confirm that requests to our Firebase project come from a genuine copy of the game. This sends Google or Apple information about the app and the device's integrity, not about you.
Feedback
"Send feedback" in Settings sends us your message and the kind you picked (a problem, an idea or something else), with the app version, the operating system, the language and the identifier of this installation of the game. It also holds your email address if you give one, so we can answer, and, if you leave "Attach game info" on, the same game details as an error report. We use it only to answer you and improve the game. It is stored in our Firebase project and deleted after a year.
Game settings
The game downloads its settings (prices, rewards and difficulty, for example) from Firebase Remote Config, so we can adjust them without an update. For this, Google receives your IP address and the identifier Firebase creates for this installation. Some players may get slightly different settings, to test which work better.
Advertising
The game shows ads only when you ask for one: a rewarded video you choose to watch for a free helper, coins, a revive or a Daily Board try. Nothing interrupts a game. Ads are served by Google AdMob and limited to content suitable for all ages. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect:
- your device's advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android)
- your approximate location from your IP address
- information about the ads you see and tap
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the game asks for your consent before any ad is requested, through Google's consent form. You can change your choice at any time in Settings, "Ad privacy choices". On iOS the game asks for permission to track through Apple's prompt; if you decline, you still receive ads, but they are not personalised. You can also reset or limit the advertising identifier in your device settings.
Google's use of this data is described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Premium gives another try without its ad (a revive, a helper that ran out, a Daily Board try). The ads that pay coins stay ads you can choose to watch, with Premium too.
Purchases
Purchases are processed by the App Store or Google Play. We receive only a confirmation of what was bought, used to unlock it on your device. We do not receive your payment details.
Game Center and Google Play Games
If you are signed in, your Classic scores, your Daily Board score for the day and your player name are sent to Apple Game Center or Google Play Games to show leaderboards, and your progress is kept in your saved games there (see Cloud save). This is handled under Apple's and Google's own privacy policies.
Rankings
The game's rankings are kept in our Firebase project (Google Cloud Firestore), so players on Android and iPhone share them. If you are signed in, your best Classic score on each board size, your best score on each day's Daily Board and your best score in each week's event are kept there, with your player name and the app version, under a code made from your Play Games or Game Center player id that does not show the id itself. Only players who are signed in take part. Other players see the best scores and names in the rankings, and where you stand, as on any leaderboard; the weekly event's ranking also decides the weekly reward. Daily Board and weekly scores are deleted about five weeks after their day or week ends. Your all-time Classic scores are kept while the game runs; write to support@softpin.space to have them deleted.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, it is scheduled on your device, with your streak and the day's board in its text. No data leaves the device for this. If "Share usage statistics" is on, the play statistics say whether reminders are allowed and when one was opened.
Why we use this data (legal bases)
Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR:
- cloud save, purchases, leaderboards, the rankings and feedback replies are needed to provide what you asked for (performance of a contract)
- error reports, crash reports, performance measurements, App Check and play statistics without a device identifier are based on our legitimate interest in keeping the game working, secure and improving; you can object at any time by turning off "Share usage statistics"
- ads and the Analytics identifier in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are based on your consent, which you can withdraw in "Ad privacy choices"
Where the data is processed
Google, Apple and their service providers may process this data outside your country, including in the United States. Google and Apple take part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and use the European Commission's standard contractual clauses for these transfers.
Children
The game is not directed at children under 13 (under 16 where local law sets that age) and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us feedback, write to support@softpin.space and we will delete it.
Your rights
Wherever you live you can ask us what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to support@softpin.space. Most of what the game sends cannot be linked to you by us. To let us find what came from your device, send the request through "Send feedback" in Settings: it carries the identifier of this installation of the game.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you also have the right to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting earlier processing), and to complain to your data protection authority.
If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law (such as California, Virginia, Colorado or Connecticut): we do not sell your personal information for money. Google's ads may use your device's advertising identifier, which some of these laws count as "sharing" for targeted advertising. You can opt out in "Ad privacy choices" where the game shows it, or by turning off ad personalisation in your device settings ("Delete advertising ID" on Android, "Allow Apps to Request to Track" on iPhone). We do not treat you differently for using these rights.
Your choices
You can turn off play statistics, error reports and performance measurements in Settings, "Share usage statistics", and ad personalisation in "Ad privacy choices". To have your feedback or error reports deleted sooner, or to ask what we hold, write to support@softpin.space.
Changes
We will post changes to this policy here and update the date above.
